Rankovce - village close to Kosice in Slovakia

Jana, 23 year old wife of Emil (20) and mother of a son is preparing lunch for her family in their new built house in Rankovce. In Slovakia are living approximately more then 400.000 Roma - what is about 7,45% of the whole Slovak population (according to the New Atlas of Roma Communities published 09/2013) - about one third of them is living in unsatisfactory conditions in segregated and separated ghettos. Emil and his family used their chance and joined with five other Roma families from the municipality to built their own houses using their own savings and money from so-called micro-loans.
