Rankovce - village close to Kosice in Slovakia

Rudolf and his wife standing in front of the old housing facility they were living in when I met them the first time at the village of Rankovce, close to Kosice in eastern Slovakia. Rudolf (45) and his wife are among those who joined the micro loan program. They and their son Rudo and three small grandchildren have never lived in their own home. They have been homeless or lived in a caravan without drinking water and electricity. Since the fall of communism Rudolf has not been able to get a permanent job. Rudolf’s family has to survive on less than 2 euro per person a day, living only off social welfare and occasional jobs.
